We are pleased to introduce you to our regular conductor for the Auxiliary Band, Nick Todd.
My musical training began at age eight in my hometown of Buhl, Idaho with piano lessons. I began to take school band Grade 6, playing clarinet, and I switched to the oboe in Grade 8. I took private lessons on oboe and music theory in high school. in my Grade 12 year, I participated in the 1974 Idaho All-State Band under the direction of Frederic Fennell. After high school graduation that year, I enrolled as a Music Education major at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. There I played in the U of I Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, a student woodwind quintet, and the U of I Vandals Marching band (playing tenor saxophone).
After graduation from university in 1978 I taught band and general music in the Castelford, Idaho school system teaching students from K-12. In 1980 I moved to Moosomin, SK to teach itinerate Band 6-12 in four schools in the Moosomin School division.
In 1985, I relocated to Saskatoon and directed the Saskatoon Lion's Band and I eventually was hired to teach band 6-8 in the Saskatoon Public School Division. At that time I also joined the Saskatoon Concert Band. In 1993 I assumed the direction of the Saskatoon Concert Band Auxiliary at the invitation of the Saskatoon Concert Band's founder, John Schoen, a position I have held to the present.
I have also kept an active performing schedule around Saskatoon on the bass, performing mostly jazz and R&B music.
